In our society today, a citizen and worker must be able to utilize technology effectively for the purposes of communication, research, education, entertainment, and compliance through our various governmental agencies. The advantage goes to the technically literate, and our goal is to prepare staff and students alike to be successful. To this end, these common skills are encouraged in our staff and students.

Basic Operating System Knowledge

Using the operating system of the computer is very important to your productivity. Regardless of the operating system that you use, the skills required to be in control of your computer are the same. Students and staff should possess the following abilities.

Find and Launch Applications
Create and Navigate to folders
Open and Save files deliberately
Create Shortcuts on start menu/dock
Use Control Panel or System Preferences
Connect to and troubleshoot printing

Knowing how to discern good from bad is essential.
